On September 6th, Guangdong Provincial Tax Service, State Taxation Administration (STA) of China and the Financial Services Bureau of Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, marking the official establishment of the BRITA•Macao (Hengqin Campus) in the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin. Tax and fiscal officials from 9 jurisdictions, including China, Macao (China), Angola, Brazil, and Cape Verde, attended the signing ceremony to witness this significant milestone.
The BRITACEG is a multilateral institution dedicated to capacity-building projects under the BRITACOM, which has established five Belt and Road Initiative Tax Academies (BRITAs) globally. They are located in Yangzhou (China), Beijing (China), and Macao (China), as well as in Astana (Kazakhstan), and Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), creating a multilingual training network covering English, Chinese, Portuguese, Russian, and Arabic-speaking regions. So far, the BRITAs have provided various tax training programs to nearly 6,000 tax and fiscal officials from over 120 jurisdictions.
The BRITA•Macao is committed to delivering high-quality tax training programs tailored for tax and fiscal officials from Portuguese-speaking jurisdictions, thereby facilitating international tax exchanges and cooperation. Since its inception, it has successfully organized 14 tax workshops with 449 tax and fiscal officials participating. Since 2023, under the meticulous coordination of the BRITACEG and in collaboration with Chinese tax authorities, the BRITA•Macao has conducted various cross-border training initiatives for its participants, including educational activities within the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, on-site teaching at the Hengqin Tax Service, STA, and visits to industrial parks and cross-border enterprises. These activities have greatly enriched the learning experience, bolstered the efficacy of the training, and yielded impressive results.
After over a year of exploration, the BRITA•Macao (Hengqin Campus) has been officially established with the support of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin Tax Service, STA. The Hengqin Campus is equipped with an activity center full of Portuguese charm and multilateral features, smart digital classrooms, IT-based training facilities, and simultaneous interpretation rooms. It also owns a multilingual service team fluent in Chinese, English, Portuguese, and Cantonese, and has produced knowledge products such as Investment Tax Guides for Portuguese-speaking jurisdictions. As a supplementary campus to the BRITA•Macao, the Hengqin Campus will provide better conditions and more resources for tax and fiscal officials from Portuguese-speaking jurisdictions, meeting the international demands of international trainees for high-quality tax training.
Mr. Iong Kong Leong, Director of the BRITACEG, President of BRITA•Macao and Director of the Financial Services Bureau of Macao, stated, "Hengqin boasts high-quality faculty and modern facilities. Through this platform, we can offer broader learning opportunities and exchange opportunities for tax officials from Portuguese-speaking countries as well as other countries and regions".
